It depends on your budget, but I would try and at least get the items below.
1x 2511 or maybe 2509 for your reverse telnet router.
1x 2522 for your frame switch router.
1x or 2x 3550's or maybe 3560's with EMI loaded for your ethernet switch(s)
3x or more of 3640's 128/32, 2600XM's 128/32 , 2801's 256/64 , or 2811's
256/64 so you can run 12.4 ADVANCED ENTERPRISE SERVICES IOS.
If you can't afford more than 3x of the routers above then get 5x more of
2621's, 2611's, 2514's. Preferably the 2621's with 64/32, but the 2514's
will work okay too as long as you have at least 3x of the 12.4 ADVANCED
ENTERPRISE SERVICES IOS capable routers listed above. In most cases you
don't need to have every router in your rack support every feature possible
on the lab exam.
You will also need items such as modules for the routers above for serial
ports, serial crossover cables, patch cables, octals cables, etc. I would
also recommend a power cycle unit such as a APC 9211 if you plan to work on
your rack remotely.
The 2511 and 2522 can also be used as backbone routers.
There are so many options it really comes down to your budget and if there
is a specific vendor's workbook you plan to use. Our racks utilize all
2811's and 3550's for R&S with plans in the very near future to upgrade the
3550's to 3560's.
