Lab Preparedness

Hi guys,

I am having a difficult time knowing where I stand in regards to being
prepared for the actual lab. Recently I attempted the LAB and gave it a
good run, but in the end I came up short. Prior to the lab I really felt
that I was ready for it. I based this on doing well on a large number of
practice labs and also scoring nicely on a Mock lab. I felt comfortable
with the technology since I started by learning the basics and not just
jumping into the advanced technology. From reading the forums for
sometime it seemed that the actual lab would be easier than the practice
labs. In fact in one case someone said 3 - 5x's easier. Now without
disclosing any information about the lab I can honestly say that the Lab
I had was tougher than any practice lab I had done previously. This
brought up a lot of questions for me and now I am wondering where I
stand. To help get some insight I thought I would bring some of these
questions to the group and see what advice people might offer.

I don't think any of these questions will violate the NDA, but if for
some reason they do please disregard them.

1. To anyone who has taken the Lab do you feel that the real lab was
easier than the practice labs, harder, or about the same? What material
did you use for practice?

2. If anyone has taken the lab multiple times, did the difficulty seem
the same on each test or did some seem easier than others?

3. Do you feel that they try to fail you on purpose? Let me elaborate on
my experience a bit to clarify the question. When I arrived at SJC the
facility was beautiful. It looked like it was built the day before I got
there. I mean everything was nice, but when I sat down at the desk I
thought there was some kind of mistake. The keyboard was really old and
dirty. It had the big enter key so every time you tried to hit backspace
it hit the enter key. The pipe was also in a strange place so when I
tried to use it I would hit another key. The right click button on the
mouse didn't work. The scroll wheel on the mouse wouldn't move the
terminal window but instead scrolled through command history. On top of
this if the scroll wheel wasn't in the exact right spot when you tried to
highlight text from the terminal it would move and highlight another 3
lines above it. In addition the Secure CRT quick paste key (ALT, E, P)
did not work. My friend took another lab the same day as me and said that
the insert key did not work on his keyboard. Then at lunch one of
the guys attempting another lab started talking about how his mouse would
stick and he had to try and clean it just so he could work. Even notepad
was hidden off where it was hard to find. Now this could just be outdated
equipment, but it seems a little suspicious that maybe it is there to
throw you off.

4. What advice do you have to preparing for the 2nd lab and knowing when
you are ready to attempt it?

If anyone has any information please let me know I am open to everyones
advice and opinions.

TIA, Bill
