The channel-protocol command narrows the options for the channel-group
command on that interface. For example, if you enter the command
"channel-protocol lacp", then only lacp options will be configurable. Here
is a demonstration:
CAT3550(config-if)#int f0/10
CAT3550(config-if)#channel-protocol lacp
CAT3550(config-if)#channel-group 1 mode desirable

Hello colleauges,
I wonder what is the purpose of the "channel-protocol" command in the
Cat3550.
When I got a task in my workbook to configure LACP, I always did:
Channel-protocol lacp
Channel-group 1 mode active
The solution was always only the second command.
