If you know the address shouldn't be issued, why rely on a ping to save
your butt? Just exclude it and be done with it.

To me, this kind of configuration is on par with folks who disable
spanning-tree because they know their topology doesn't have any loops.

All it takes is 1 office with 2 data ports for someone to prove you
wrong (auto-mdix doesn't help matters - instant crossover cable).
