Not in front of my laptop and I think I have diff configs on my rack. But the
vlan is created on both switches and allowed on the trunk. Trunk is
forwarding. I'll lab this up again and see what I run into.

You should not have any issues with mixing ISL and
Dot1q on Cisco's hardware. You should need to make
sure that both ends of the trunk are setup in the same
fashion. I think you should double check your
spanning-tree status and trunk status. Can you post
the status of the spanning-tree and trunks for the
respective interfaces and vlans? I would say the the
mostly likely reason for the issues is that the vlan
was not created on the problematic switch.
