Cecil,
Many CCIE-level tasks will hint at the required option by describing the
attributes of the option required or to be ruled out, so the more you know
about the protocols and technologies, the easier it is to understand the
question.
The primary difference between the two tunnel modes you mention is the former,
"tunnel mode ipv6ip", is manually configured, whereas the latter, "tunnel mode
ipv6ip 6to4", is dynamically created.
Here is a link to get you started:

The book I most recommend is
Regis Desmeules, Cisco Self-Study: Implementing Cisco IPv6 Networkds (IPV6).

Subject: IPV6 tunnels
How would a question have to be worded around the question of creating
create an IPV6 tunnel using either tunnel mode ipv6ip or tunnel mode ipv6ip
6to4?
RACK03R6(config-if)#tunnel mode ipv6ip
RACK03R6(config-if)#
RACK03R6(config-if)#tunnel mode ipv6ip ?
6to4 IPv6 automatic tunnelling using 6to4
auto-tunnel IPv6 automatic tunnelling using IPv4 compatible addresses
isatap IPv6 automatic tunnelling using ISATAP
<cr>
RACK03R6(config-if)#tunnel mode ipv6ip
Thanks
Cecil
