Hi Graham,
To tag the routes being advertised out.
Tags are carried across IGP even if you redistribute from OSPF to RIP routing
protocols. It is for filtering, policy routing, etc.
For example, to prevent route feedback especially in a 2-way redistribution
where u may get into suboptimal routing.
