I just wanted to elaborate on this a bit because I've had a few offline
discussions with people about why the differences exist.
When you think about what's really doing it's not all that different.
Passive-Interface stops that interface from sending out routing protocol
information.
Passive interface works for OSPF (as you stated). You don't send
anything out that interface, so you don't form neighbor relationships,
which prevents the exchange of routes.
With RIP, you don't send out any updates. But RIP isn't an IGP that
requires a neighbor relationship. So, you don't send updates, but you
receive them because 2 way communication wasn't a pre-req.
