Hi Koen,
My guess is dampening 30 is enough.
The default for reuse is 1000 and supress is 2000
With half-life to 30 you cane be sure that if 3 quick dumps occur it will shut the interface, it is also true if the dumps are in a 30 second period.
But a formula for quick calculation will be very useful
Best,
Nick

Subject: ip event dampening parameters
Hi group,
As far as ip event dampening (on the interface not BGP) is concerned. If
you have to configure an interface to supress after 3 flaps in a 30 second
period what would be the appropriate answer for the parameters?
My first gues would be:
dampening 15 1000 3000 60
However that would require the 3 flaps to be very quick after each other
since the penalty gets reduced by a bit right away and never get to 3000
with 3 flaps.
My second guess would be:
dampening 15 1000 2000 60
Am i right?
thanks,
Koen
