Hi
I am a bit confused about Assert and DR in PIM on lans.
So if you have two multicast forwarders connected to a LAN they will send an
Assert message containing group info, unicast source, AD and metric of the
source ( I think )reading RFC I cannot see any other info in the pim packet.
The device with the best route to the source will become the chosen
forwarder for lan. Or if they are the same the device with the highest IP
Address will.
Where does the DR come into this for PIM? I see you can set the dr-priority
to overide a selection of DR that was done using highest versus ip address
but does this priority figure in assert or is the dr for some other purpose?
Your clarification would much appreciated.
Thanks
