I should also be fair and remind people that I also have completed some of Laura Chappel's Sniffer classes this year and PMG NetAnalyst as well on my own time.

I constantly work with my co-workers in the desktop team, operations, help desk, server support, and even the programmers and business analysts to help improve their own level of skill and understanding of networking concepts and how it affects them day-to-day and these things also have impacted the amount of calls I no longer recieve as well.

I got a tear in my eye the other day...

One of the MS Clusters was having a problem that was outside of the level of understanding and training of the server team...

A consultant had to be called in (he was usually the generalist who came in to work most any problem) and when he came he gave a number of possible symptoms...

My team surrounding him quickly challenged him on every single one and demanded he defended his line of reasoning... Even the manager knew what he asserted was wrong and he was one of the chorus...

Now this my friends is going to be one of the moments I remember the longest from this place.

The level of support "WE" as team provide has impoved and there is no "I" in "WE" so it is really a testament to the team.

I think also that the team appreciates having seasoned top-level guys around and as a result of obtaining training, both OJT and semi-formal, is helping them directly as a result and they see this fact as well.

Needless to say we have yet to be challenged by retention issues in our desktop or server groups either. Another positive benefit.

I know this is off-topic...
