Hi all,
I came across a command that perked my interest but I'm not sure exactly how I might use it effectively.
Have you used it? To what purpose?
ip broadcast 0.0.0.0
The doc cd says: Establish a different broadcast address (other than 255.255.255.255)
And I suppose that is straight forward enough...
But why would I change the broadcast address of an interface to something other than the default (other than the lab may lead one into such a corner).
A quick survey of all of the ShowIT produced no such output from the NMC Labs...
I have not seen such a command called for before.
Has anyone else had any other uses for a command like this?
Now recall, we can change the quad 0 to anything we want... :)
And imagine using it on say a frame relay connection which might be point-to-point or better yet a GRE Tunnel? And while I'm thinking point-to-point, how about a full-duplex ethernet connection?
But in more mundane terms, why would I use it on say over a broadcast medium such as Ethernet?
I have seen that it can be used to specify what a device might use as a broadcast address for itself.

The following example specifies an IP broadcast address of 0.0.0.0:
ip broadcast-address 0.0.0.0
To define a broadcast address for an interface, use the ip broadcast-address interface configuration command. To restore the default IP broadcast address, use the no form of this command.
ip broadcast-address [ip-address]
no ip broadcast-address [ip-address]
