Asunto: RE: Opinion about IPExpert Workbook

I'm glad that you took so much time to point these things out... But let's
talk about the value of professionalism in your opinions versus just spewing
crap out there to hear yourself talk....

Are you adding anything new? Or any value here? Larry is one of the people
who took up the task of providing CONSTRUCTIVE feedback and comments on the
book. Does it matter who he's employed by or not? Anyone is capable of
that, and we've received offers from others for testing in the future which
I think is a great way to add to the value and consistency and QA all
around.

While I can't do anything other than apologize for what level of errors
have come out in 3.0, bear in mind that errata is being published on the web
site available to any customers of the book. and for the 4.0 project, I
personally will be involved and we'll try to make sure that problems of this
level don't happen again. (That's the note to everyone)

On a side note, I'd be interested in talking to you a bit about your
credentials there. That CCIE number isn't valid. :) While I'm sure we can
have the whole debate about the anonymity of Yahoo accounts and things like
that, I would think that if you're going to sign an e-mail purporting to be
a CCIE that you would at least use one that's not expired, and at least use
one associated with your own name. (Unless you're part of the witness
protection program or something, in which case you shouldn't be posting
e-mails!) But that goes back to my point of professionalism. If you keep
things professional, people will be more likely to respect your opinion.

Just my two cents...

Well, that "positive comment" that you received was from one "Mr. Larry
Roberts" who is a cisco employee and indirectly working for you to update
your workbook.
Larry was not honest enough to even mention that he took one of your
bootcamps in RTP as well.

I have not bought your product but I have seen it with my colleagues and
friends who have ALL said the same what ccie16081 and others are saying.
Your "VP Sales & Business Development, Mr. Matt Brooks" is one character
who just goes on praising the workbook, whereas he DOES NOT even know what
the contents of the workbook are. It is pathetic how you guys just defend a
USELESS and SHITTY product and charge so much from innocent students.

If evaluated independantly, Trinet workbook is by far the best and I have
heard of some new upcoming product coming soon by them.....

16081 - you still haven't identified yourself - is this done for any
*particular reason*?....I can't verify that I have or have not yet talked w/
you. To me, this seems very strange that (this week) we received a positive
comment about a CCIE Security engineer that has used our product to pass the
lab, now you *under an alias* have publicly bashed our products without
giving us a name to see if you're *really* a customer...I'll say this one
last time - we (me, my sales and support staff) have and do respond to our
clients directly. We also have our own support forum, support list and a
telephone number - we are reachable. Your claims that we don't respond,
support or get back to our clients is difficult to digest due to the many
ways we can be contacted. Regardless, congratulations on passing your lab -
and thanks for the visibility - since you asked - our CCIE Security WB is
currently undergoing a massive upgrade (WB and Proctor Guide) - it will be
updated, any errors corrected and several new (current and upcoming)
technologies will be added.

Thank you for choosing IPexpert!,

Hi Jens,

Thank you very much for standing up for me.

I am not in the business of trashing training vendors but in the case of
IPExpert, their business practice is absolutely terrible that I have to say
something about it.

I started in CCIE journey in July 2003 and sheduled my first security lab
attempt in September 2003. I purchased the CCIE Security workbook version
1.0 from IPExpert in July 2003. I was told that IPExpert will come out with
Version 2.0 in September 2003. For those of you who don't remember, the
CCIE Security lab was revamped after September with the addition of IDS and
VPN concentrator.

As my lab date approaches, I called IPExpert and got a hold of Wayne Lawson.
He told me that they will come out with version 2.0 in September.
Furthermore, when version 2.0 becomes available, IPExpert will send me
version 2.0 for FREE since I already purchased version 1.0, I just have to
pay for the shipping fee. While I was waiting for version 2.0 to be
released, I prepared for the Security lab with workbook version 1.0. The
workbook had lot of errors in there that made it practically useless.
Needless to say, I failed the security lab in September 2003.

When I got back from the lab, I tried to contact folks at IPExpert and asked
them when version 2.0 will be released. They kept telling me that it will
be released soon. I kept waiting and waiting but to the best of my
knowledge, IPExpert security workbook version 2.0 was not released until
2005. So we're talking going through the whole
2004 with NOTHING. Guess what, when they released version 2.0, they did not
even bother to send a copy of version 2.0 either.

I have seen more than a few unhappy customers who purchased IPExpert
Security workbook. My personal opinion about the security workbook is that
it does just a little bit to help me prepare for the security lab, may be
about 10%. That is a lot to pay with $499.

I also saw an email from Wayne Lawson telling someone in the security
groupstudy that version 3.0 is outdated. What the F! does that mean?
When I checked IPExpert website, you (IPExpert) is still selling workbook
version 3.0.

As I've said in my previous post, I think IPExpert is bunch of crooks.
You guys put out a shitty security workbook product to scam CCIE Security
candidates like myself and everyone in this security forum.
For me, $499 is not a big deal because I can afford it.
However, it is in-excusable that you do this to ccie candidates who are
paying for racktime, lab fee and everything else out of his/her own pockets.
This is not right. I will not recommend IPExpert security workbook to
anyone who is interested in purchasing it.

I would like to hear from anyone who purchased the IPExpert Security
workbook and passed the security lab. If enough people in the security
forum telling me that I am wrong, I will be more than happy to shut up and
apologize to IPExpert. By the way, I am specifically referring to Security
workbook, NOT R&S workbook.

One other thing, what am I saying about IPExpert is NOT true?

Hey WAYNE... this is not my buisniss but when you call people liers then I
need to say something

Why do you call him a lier... He is totally right about that workbook... Man
you are never able to take criticism about your products...
he is not lying.. I also remember you (ipexpert)promised ver 2 of the
security book just after they had changed the lab that year(2003) and he is
right the book came last year... so he is totally telling the truth....

You should rather look at your customer service, and you say if you have any
complaints contact you and matt... man you can wrote you guys 10 mails
before you answers the mail

Subject: Opinion about IPExpert Workbook

Here is my opinions about the IPExpert workbook:

I purchased the first IPExpert Workbook version 1.0 back in July 2003 for
$499.
The book had a lot of errors in it that it was not even funny. In other
words, the material is a piece of crap, completely useless. I contacted
IPExpert in August 2003 and spoke directly with Wayne Larson. Wayne assured
me that IPExpert will come out with IPExpert 2.0 in Septemter that will fix
a lot of errors in version 1.0. Not only that, they will send me a free
upgrade of the IPExpert 2.0 workbook. Wayne sound believable on the phone
when I talked him.

It turned out that he just outright lied to me about the version 2.0. I do
not think version 2.0 was released until late in 2004 or perhap 2005.
They did not even bother send me verion 2.0 workbook which I found to be
in-excusable, it is just bad business from IPExpert. Not only that, the
materials in the workbook are so bad and will not help anyone preparing for
the Security lab. At least, that's how I feel about it.

I think the folks at IPExpert are a bunch of crooks. They put out a shitty
product called IPExpert Workbook to screw honest consumers like you and me.
I would never buy anything from them again. It seems like everytime people
complained about the IPExpert Workbook, I see emails from People at IPexpert
defending it by saying that the workbook is going through a revamp. Yeah
right, you guys have been saying that crap since 2003. For me $499 is not a
big deal because I can afford it but I know for a lot of folks in this forum
who has to pay their own lab equpipments, rack time, lab fee and air fair,
$499 is a big deal for them. It is not right for IPExpert to rip them off
like that.

I did not use hello computers or TriNet workbooks so that I can not comment
on them but I can definitely say with 100% conviction that purchasing
IPExpert Workbook is a completely waste of money.

That's my 2c.
