There are some new features in the 12.4 set for "archive" that are working
along those lines of configuration maintenance. Otherwise, there are many
third-party programs (Kiwi, Solarwinds, Rancid, etc.) for config
maintenance.
Rollback is a WAY cool feature though, and it's been around since the dawn
of JUNOS. (Does that mean Cisco "stole" it from Juniper?)
As for the "who stole what" ideas... Isn't that the concept of competition
anyway? Once one has a cool idea, if enough people like it, soon everyone
has something similar. :) Your PIX virtual firewalls came because of
Netscreen (now Juniper). I don't view this as a bad thing at all.
Both Cisco and Juniper have their places within networks. Both have
benefits and both have problems. Both can be defended in different
circumstances, but it's always good to know the options available to you!

Brian, is there any command similar to the Juniper to rollback a
configuration? (did I say that I do not know anything about juniper) It
would be nice to have something like this when doing Maintenance Windows.
:)
Brian Dennis escribis:
Juniper was founded in 1996 and the "reload" command with the "in"
option first appeared in IOS version 10.3. Since IOS version 10.3 was
released in 1995 it appears you have it backwards ;-)
If you ever want to discuss Cisco vs Juniper be sure to check out our
IRC chat server. I'm regularly in there defending all things Cisco
related ;-)

I could see the humor in it.

i don't think victor is having an issue. he locked himself from his
router but he was smart enough to issue the reload command before
issuing the aaa commands.
he's providing a real life example of the usefulness of the reload
command.
