For some reason I thought the 3640 does run CME, but according to Cisco's
webpage, it doesnt (at least for CME 4.0):

Table 1. IP Phone Support per Platform

      Platform
     Maximum Phones

Cisco IAD 2430 Series Integrated Access Devices 24

Cisco 2801 Integrated Services Router, 1760-V and 1751-V Access
Routers 24

Cisco 2811 Integrated Services Router, 261xXM and 262xXM Series Access
Routers 36

Cisco 2821 Integrated Services Router, 265xXM Access Router 48

Cisco 2691 Multiservice Access Router 72

Cisco 2851 Integrated Services Router 96

Cisco 3725 Multiservice Access Router 144

Cisco 3745 Multiservice Access Router 192

Cisco 3825 Integrated Services Router 168

Cisco 3845 Integrated Services Router 240

http://www.cisco.com/en/US/products/sw/voicesw/ps4625/products_data_sheet0900aecd8041c303.html

However, I'm pretty sure they are missing the 2600XM routers from the list
above...so maybe 3640s are missing to?

Brad,

Coming back to same old question. Can I run CME on 3640? Another thing I
noticed is cost of buying 2600XM and upgrading it to (48 Flash and 256 DRAM)
is comparable to 2801 or 2811 pricing (brand new)

I will order the Call manager and Cisco Unity through my account manager and
I will get 2 x 7940 phones

Do you need any network modules like NM-2V or VIC-2FXO or VIC-2FXS?

Ubaaid,

2600XM for CME and your gateway
Check out the books that go with the CCVP exams
No, you probably dont need ad T1/E1 simulator to start with
You can get two IP phones and also use IP Communicator (or VTGO softphone)
One server with Call Manager (wmare image)
One server with unity (vmware image)

that should do it.

from and what the best to climb the ropes. I come from R&S and Security

Do you recommend training courses or buy my home lab. What should I buy if I
want to learn at home?

Any books and CBT

I am thinking to take it as a hobby and I think it will be good fun :)
