Poor mans method to study for the lab

Hello,

I'd like suggestions from people here who had passed the lab on how a poor
man can do it with minimum resources

I can afford to get routing simulators as Zebra//Quagga on PCs, i have like
3 routers, but no Switches and i dont think i can buy any

i dont think i can do alot of rack rental either, i think i can save the
money for the exam and thats it, i'm just asking how can i do this, can i
for example keep testing stuff on a smaller scale + alot of reading/theory,
?

i'm studying for the SP exam not R&S btw

So would it work or its just useless unless i have enough resources ?
