I believe portfast bypasses the blocking, learning and listening states and
goes immediately into the forwarding state. I think something like
uplinkfast is more like what you're looking for, or in more current terms,
Rapid-PVST.

This was off the top of my head so please correct me if I'm wrong.

depends on if STP has to go through all the states to get to forwarding...If
so, Portfast aint it :)
