Hey Joe,
Personally, I applaud you for your ambition.
I have a MBA from Columbia Business School and a ccie. And, that combo does
open lots of doors.
Hopefully, on April 8th, I will add a CISSP to the mix (assuming I pass the
test). And, I'm planning on adding the CEH credential in a few months.
Having strong technical skills and the credentials that prove that is very
valuable. Having an MBA from a good school is also very valuable. What you
need to decide is this. Will earning a MBA provide you the opportunities
you are looking for and will be good at?
There is more than one right path. You need to decide where you want to go
and what the best path is for yourself to get there.
However, all the credentials in the world can't offset some shortcomings.
If a person is not honest, doesn't have good interpersonal skills and good
communication skills, or doesn't exercise good judgment, that person will
have a hard time advancing professionally.
If you want we can discuss this further off-line.
Tim

Subject: CIO and CCIE
Weird off topic question but wanted group input.
Definitely value the CCIE after clawing my way to it in 2004 (deep in my
recert studies at the moment in fact) and love the technical piece of that.
Having scaled that mountain I am now working on an MBA with a career goal of
becoming a CIO.
My personal opinion is that having both the business (MBA) and technical
(CCIE) background is a unique and killer combination for a role like that.
What are YOUR thoughts? Benefit, drawback, or neither?
