The real issue is the control characters are not understood properly in
HyperTerminal. This is a Microsoft bug.
Get the real HyperTerminal from the company that Microsoft licenses the
product from to fix the problem.

Download the HyperTerminal PE 6.3x (whatever is the latest version)
This will fix the problem.
