We use a lot of these blades for dense server farms. There are a few
things you need to know about them. You do need the Sup720, but you must
also be careful of the chassis as well. These require either an enhanced
chassis like 6503E - 6509E or they can fit into slots 9-13 of a 6513
chassis. They require dual channel fabric for attachment. Single channel
will not do. You should also run Native IOS. You must be very careful of
bug id CSCei20107. I also highly recommend using the appropriate DFC for
these cards that matches your Sup. Here is a description of that bug,
but note that you need to upgrade to at least 12.2(18)SXE4.
The bug is CSCei20107, it impacts 6748's with DFC3's installed. The bug
is essentially a memory leak related to span sessions. If you don't
have spans configured you may not hit it. The DFC's will reload due to
MALLOC fail.

We are using these atm. I think they require native and sup 720 A word
of caution is that some of these modules have a issue with them .
When you order make sure you receive these modules with hardware
revision number more than 2.3 . Otherwise they will go down into "pwr
down" mode and the only work around is to repalce with a new module

Hi all:
Anyone knows if Catalyst 6500 with supervisor 1A and using hybrid code
can support the ws-x6748-ge-tx line card?
I've seen Cisco docs that seem contradictories... unfourtunately, i
haven't the apropiate hw to test this issue... it seems that if you have
catos 8.1.2 it works but i am not totally sure.
Anyone can help? Anyone has this type of config?
Regards
