You might try using site types, I used that a lot when I was working for
AT&T and we dealt with large designs.

Usually most networks have a main head-end (type 1), a secondary hub (DR or
backup site, type 2) and various types of remote sites (for instance,
regional offices, branch offices, and such, all would be separate types).

It made the diagram simple and clean instead of crowded and full of hard to
read items...
