Hello Alec,
Use the "standby ip secondary" command.

Best regards,

Subject: HSRP & 2ndary IP addresses

Hi guys,

Sorry for this question but I can't test this.

Does HSRP work with secondary ip addresses the same way as with primary interface addresses?

Here's the problem. A company is planning to migrate to a new ip addressing scheme and they want to minimize downtime. They have lots of hosts on the subnet and it will be impossible to convert all the PC's all at once. However, while the PC's are re-configured with the new ip addresses all the PC's with the old ip addresses must still maintain connectivity.

Currently, this company has 2 routers on this subnet with half the hosts using one router as their default gateway and the other half using the other router.

Besides configuring HSRP (or VRRP) and using 2ndary ip addresses on the router interfaces, I can't think of a better way to do this. do you guys agree?

  Thanks
