I recently took a lab in Beijing !!! Experiences was not so pleasant
!!!Reasons being ...
Reasons that are personal to me .
1) I failed and obviously I will have bad memories !!!
2) I was taken off-guard by the climate ... Even though I stayed close to
CISCO I will have to resort to Taxi . Even the smaller time I spent outside
the hotel/Cisco , I had frost bites on lips , Foot and Ears !!! I really
struggled with climate ( Pls. Note : I come from Chennai ( South India )
which has only 3 season a) Hot season b) Hotter season and c) Hottest
season ) . If you are going to china go with warm clothes or pls. plan your
trip on summer months .
Other reasons :-
1) Lunch will not be served in Beijing . In the half-n-hour break ...you
will have go out find a hotel and have lunch and come back . This is near to
impossible .On the lighter side ... You can have quick look at your notes
when you go outside ( referring to notes is not allowed in CCIE lab . In
Beijing , you can safely do it with out being caught by the proctor )
2) DOC CD search is not allowed . So be sure how to browse through the doc
CD before going to Beijing .
3) Going to Rest rooms is very difficult in Beijing . You have walk a long
distance with in Cisco building to reach it !!! While coming back you need
to knock the door !!! And wait for some body to open the door for you !!!
Moral of the story : Drink Less water while you take up exam in Beijing .
4) Language is definitely a problem both within and outside Cisco for
non-Chinese speaking people !!!
FYI : Unlike japan Beijing provided PC with English edition of Window ...if
you are coming from outside of china . Problems with adapting to new OS
never arised for me !!!
