I think you are right. Using the tunnel is one of the solution.
Because you are allowed to use Dense-Mode only.
Nbma-mode command can still be entered but you will get some warrning from
IOS.
NBMA mode is not to be used to solve rpf problem.
It sould be used when the task ask you to not send multicast packet to
unnecessary peers.
For example if mpacket sourced from one interface of R1 and dest to
224.2.2.2.
And only R2's user subscribe to this group.
In Dense mode both R2 and R3 will receive this mpacket even though there is
no user subscribe this group on R3.
But if you use sparse-mode + nbma-mode , the traffic will be restrict to R2
only.
If you do the test and observe it from "show ip mroute" you will see how it
works.
Not just because RPF issue but alos "split-horizon" issue, you can not send
and receive mpacket on the same interface.
