just FYI: I visited one of largest software companies and they are running MPLS traffic engineering in their enterprise network.
I've seen lots of enterprise companies (some even in mid-size) utilizing MPLS applications, particularly TE, L2VPN. Some even use MPLS L3VPN (VRF) to reduce BGP peering in the core and segregate routing/traffic among different subsidiaries.

Knowing a technology in different domain definitely increase your understanding of "whole picture".

  Good luck,

Agreed - there are large enterprises that do run MPLS in their core but your
job opportunities are limitied to a select few multinationals.

The vast majority of enterprises do not run such protocols or as another
poster stated you don't need to configure MPLS protocol on your router to
use MPLS for WAN connectivity, you merely configure BGP to peer with the
edge routers.

But my point is the technologies learned in the SP track will only be useful
in Service Provider networks and a select handfull of mega corporations.
If you do go for these jobs, you will be competing with thousands of ex-SP
engineers who are still looking for work. Many of these service
provider engineers have Phd's and years of experience which in some
employers eyes looks better than a newbie with a CCIE certification.

Basically what I am saying is that if you want the most job opportunities
possible go for something that every company needs, like voice and security.
