Hey there,
When doing lab type things, I was always as specific as possible.
For RIP I would tell it not to run on any interfaces by default
(passive-interface default) then select only the interfaces I wanted.
For EIGRP and OSPF I would only put in the specified interface addresses
( network 1.2.3.4 0.0.0.0 ...).
That way, you know exactly what is going on.
