If a split area 0 is the problem. Can a virtual-link be used or do you
have to use a GRE?

Pretty much a virtual-link is a tunnel through the area. What exactly
are
you thinking and are having the issue with?

If it's a split area 0

R1 --> Serial 0 area 0 connected to R2 Serial 0
R1 --> Serial 1 area 1 connected to R3 Serial 1

R2 --> Serial 0 area 0 connected to R1 serial 0

R3 --> Serial 1 area 1 connected to R1
R3 --> FE 0 area 0 connected to R4

R4 --> FE 0 area 0 connected to R3

Create a tunnel on R3 to R1 through area 1 then put the tunnel into area
0.
This will essentially give you a virtual link through area 1, only using
tunnels.

Thanks

Hi all
I am having great difficulty finding a good example of using a GRE
tunnel
instead of a virtual link, also is there any issues in doing so ? Any
help
would be greatly apppreciated.

Cheers

Chris
