Have you tried the ip ssh timeout command? I do not see if there is any way
to disable it and the max is 120 seconds.

Tony - I have that configured by default and it would appear to do nothing
for lines accessed via ssh. I can understand why ssh has a maximum timeout
limit which cannot be set to 'never timeout'
It's just a workaround I'm after.

Yes, exec-timeout is for sessions local to the router, that is why you need
to configure it on the router you are ssh'ing to.
