RE: Question about the IE Lab Setup

You might even have a look at a lowly 1841 router, if you don't need the
interface density.

Has anyone noticed that they even run IS-IS and MPLS stuff, something that
wasn't available on a 17xx router.

Now there isn't *any* voice stuff on the 1841, but do you really need that
for R&S *AND* Security ?

Something missing on a 1841 seems to be ... IPSEC stateful failover... Well
it doesn't seem that important ;-)

Kind regards,

Koen.

Subject: RE: Question about the IE Lab Setup

Tony,
Comparing a 2801 and 3825 both running 12.4 Advanced Enterprise
Services, Cisco lists out 265 features on the 3825 that are not listed
as "available" on the 2801. The 2801 lists 6 features that are not
"available" on the 3825. As far as how many of these relate to the CCIE
lab I'm sure it's very few and possibly none.

The 2811's and above appear to run about neck and neck with the
3825's so they should be a very good alternative to the 3825's. Only
the 2801's appear to have a difference in the features as compared to a
3825.

Lastly as I stated before we are not using any 3825 specific
features in the new version of the IEWB-RS workbook so 3640's will be
fine. This is consistent with what Cisco has publicly stated about the
Jan 2006 changes.

What specific features might there be on a 3825 that would not be on
something like the 2800's ?

Sameer,
We will be using 3640's in our rental racks for R6. There are
not any tasks that will require the 3825 specifically. "Possibly"
around August 2006 we will swap them out with 3825s so that we can test
on any 3825 specific features.

Brians,

I see that you guys are using Cisco 3825 128/24 Code 12.4(5) for R6.
What can I use instead of 3825? What are my other options with which i
can do all my labs but avoid the expensive 3825. How about some thing in
2600 or 3600 series.

Here's what i have

R1/R2 - 2621
R3/R4/R5 - 3640
R6 - ?
BB1/BB2/BB3 - 2501
FR - 4500

thanks,
Manoj.
