Hi John,

The differences are both semantic as well as syntactic (in terms of the address prefix used).

A site-local address is meant to be only significant within a site and must not leave that site i.e. a packet with a source or destination address that is a site-local address must not leave a site. The prefix used for site-local addresses is FEC0::/10. Multiple sites can use the same site-local address. However, note that the IETF is deprecating the use of site-local addresses.

A link-local address is meant to be only significant on a link and must not leave the link i.e. a packet with a source or destination address that is a link-local address must not leave a link. The prefix used for link-local addresses is FE80::/10. Multiple links can use the same link-local address.

Hope that helps.
Paresh.
