Stuart - sorry
No idea what you meant by 'kit'. Maybe aka 'home lab'?

Thanks for that, I already knew what Cisco recommended, however I asked
what the minimum kit needed was, not what is in the lab.
It lists below PIX 500 series, VPN 3000 series, IPS 4200 series. What I
wanted to know are specifics such as which version of PIX can I get away
with using, PIX 501, 505, 515E etc, there's a lot of difference in cost.
What VPN 3000 model, 3005? again lots of different models.
In short I want to know what equipment I can use which will be the
cheapest.
Thanks.

The power of Google: first hit on "ccie lab security equipment software"
http://www.cisco.com/web/learning/le3/ccie/security/lab_equipment.html
The lab exam requires a depth of understanding difficult to obtain
without hands-on experience. Early in your preparation you should arrange
access to the equipment and the Cisco IOS Software versions indicated
below.
You may see more recent Cisco IOS Software versions installed in the lab,
but you will not be tested on the new features of a release, unless
indicated in the list below.
a.. Cisco 2600 Series Routers
b.. Cisco 3600 Series Routers
c.. Cisco 3700 Series Routers
d.. Cisco Catalyst 3550 Series Switches running Cisco IOS Software
Version 12.1EA
e.. Cisco PIX 500 Series Security Appliances
f.. Cisco VPN 3000 Series Concentrators
g.. Cisco IPS Series 4200 intrusion prevention system sensors
h.. Cisco Secure Access Control Server for Windows
i.. Certificate Authority Support
*The VPN Concentrator can be configured using CLI (Command Line
Interface) or a GUI web interface. The IDS sensors can be configured using
CLI and managed through the IDS Device Manager and IDS Event Viewer.
Software Versions
a.. Cisco IOS Software Version 12.2T is used on all routers
b.. Cisco PIX Security Appliance OS Software Version 6.3
c.. VPN 3000 Series Concentrator OS, Release 4.1.x
d.. Cisco Intrusion Detection System Release 4.1.x
