Any machine (Microsoft or otherwise) uses 127.0.0.1 as a default loopback.
The entire 127/8 range CAN be used, and often is (again, HW/SW independent).
The only thing I can think of specific to Microsoft is their AutoNet concept
which is the 169.254/16 range. That is NOT a loopback though.
I'd probably ask the proctor what "Microsoft" and "loopback" had to do with
each other in the same sentence.
