lan swithing question

Hi

 I have a question that is bothering me .
Many times I have topologies even from ipexpert who has switching running ip routing , I would like to know if when there is a swich for example in the middle of two networks . How could I resolve it , configure ips junt on interfaces vlan ? or
no switchport
ip add x.x.x.x

and configure routing normaly? How can I configure correct and be sure what the exam requests?
