I was assuming that there was no default route in ospf itself. The reason
the backup command may be useful is that without it, the dialer interface is
up/up (spoofing) so the floating static would remain in the routing table
(again, assuming there is no other in the routing table). Once the backup
command is used, the dialer will be in standby/down state, so the default
will not be advertised to the rest of the ospf network.
I think this was what Jonathan was originally looking for but I may be
wrong. Regardless of the config, interesting traffic will be required to
bring up the isdn.
