I think the missing part is :

  interface ATM1/0.306 point-to-point
 pvc 0/306
    encapsulation xxxxx <---
  protocol ppp dialer
  dialer pool-member 1
 !

  Rgds,
  Thomwin

Here's the config
R6----BB1

R6:

username BB1 password 0 CISCO
!
interface ATM1/0.306 point-to-point
pvc 0/306
protocol ppp dialer
dialer pool-member 1
!
interface Dialer1
ip address 54.6.8.6 255.255.255.0
encapsulation ppp
dialer pool 1
ppp authentication pap
ppp pap sent-username ROUTER6 password 0 CISCO
!
Should I be able to ping .254 i.e. BB1 ?
because I cant,,

I did a debug on ppp auth, I dont seem to be getting anything from BB1.

sh atm ilmi-status

Interface : ATM1/0 Interface Type : Private UNI (User-side)
ILMI VCC : (0, 0) ILMI Keepalive : Disabled
ILMI State: UpAndNormal
Peer IP Addr: 54.2.9.100 Peer IF Name: ATM0/1/1
Peer MaxVPIbits: 8 Peer MaxVCIbits: 14
Active Prefix(s) :
47.0000.0000.0000.0000.0000.000a

R6#ping 54.6.8.254

Type escape sequence to abort.
Sending 5, 100-byte ICMP Echos to 54.6.8.254, timeout is 2 seconds:
..

This is my 1st shot at ATM configs, any help would be appreciated.
