All,
Passed the CCIE on Wednesday in RTP. This was my 6th attempt. I used a
combination of resources but my two favorites where the CheckIt and DoIt
labs from Netmasters and the Mock Lab from Internetwork Experts. I finally
figured out that after five attempts my approach was broken. I have three
kids and had always tried to study at home so that the kids did not feel
slighted. After my fifth failure this year my wife told me that I needed to
stay in the office every evening and on Saturday so that I wouldn't be
distracted. From September 29th until November 15th I practiced this
strategy religiously and it paid off. As I was nearing my date this time I
spent an incredible amount of time on the univercd studying everything that
I had seen in my previous attempts and it was amazing that many of the basic
things I had thought I was getting right I wasn't. I honestly think that a
couple of factors (1) Studying in a distraction free environment, 2) knowing
where to find data on the univercd like the back of my hand, and 3) a return
to the basics) actually made the difference this time and allowed me to
pass.
I would really like everyone to know that I could not have done this
without the support of my wife and kids. They really made this possible. I
wish everyone that is currently pursuing this goal the best of luck and all
I can say is that if you fail, get back up, grab a new date and continue
until you pass.
 Regards,
David Browning, CCIE 15393
