RE: multicast auto-rp listener question

Hey John,

The auto-rp-listener allows a sparse-mode interface to function as dense
mode for the autorp groups and sparse mode for everything else.

Autorp operates in dense mode. It assumes every other router wants this
rp information and floods it out the interface. A sparse mode interface
is supposed to only run sparse mode and thus you have a conflict.

This global command tells the router that it is ok to still run dense
mode operations for the autorp groups.

(AFAIK)--> This command is not related in any way to the design choices
and limitations of your mapping and rp routers.

Subject: multicast auto-rp listener question

is the auto-rp listener command used in the case that you are using
auto-rp/sparse-mode and the mapping agent is not directly connnected to
the mapping agent.....so you use the auto-rp-listener on this router to
overcome the limitation of not being directly connected to the mapping
agent......or am i way off?
