I have done a bunch of cat os to native conversions on MSFC2 and on Sup720s.
It is not as easy as one would like.
Converting the configs, you can use the cisco tool which I did for a 3k line
config but did it in pieces and only for pieces that worked. Even Cisco
states that this tool is not 100%, so I did most of my conversion manually
to be sure.
- Following link is a tool to convert CatOS configs to its equivalent in
IOS.

You may not want to completely rely on this tool and I would strongly
recommend to reivew the configs before put into production.
CAT OS to Native there are some mascinations here but it is doable and not
sure if it should even be attempted remotely. I did like 10 for a client but
in a lab locally.
I have also some links here that will help you in converting from CAtOS to
Native mode.
Software conversion from CATOS to Cisco IOS FOLLOW THE STEPS IN THIS LINK!!!

You must check your hardware to ensure that your new native IOS supports the
blades too.

Hi,
Recently, I was wondering about something very similar.
I found this White Paper which compares the CatOS and IOS. This should get
you started in the right direction.

The question you asked doesn't have one right answer based on the limited
info you provided. But, after reading that paper, you'll have a much better
idea of what factors you'll need to consider and what the trade-offs are
between those 2 paths.

Subject: Cat OS or IOS for 6500 Series Switch ?
My Name is Dharmendra Shah and I am in a dilemma that should I upgrade to
Cat OS or IOS ? We have approximately 30 plus 6500 series Catalyst Switches
in our Head Offices and various remote corporate offices spread all over US.
Currently the Cat OS version installed in these switches are 7.4(7) or
7.6(7).
We are planning to upgrade the operating system of the switch.
I want to know if I should upgrade with the latest version of the Cat OS or
upgrade with the latest IOS of 6500 series switch.
I have heard that Cisco is encouraging people to go with the IOS for 6500
series switch rather then Cat OS.
Will the New IOS for 6500 series switch support all my latest hardware like
SUP1A-2GE , line card with PoE, Communication Module, etc.
Is the IOS as stable as that of Cat OS and does it support all the
functionality which are supported by the Cat OS like QoS, IP TELEHONY etc.
I would also like to know which version of IOS / Cat OS I should upgrade
to.
NOTE: We have 16 MB Flash & 64 MB RAM in all our Switches.
