Where to dump un-assigned interfaces?

Hello group,

I noticed while doing some practice labs that there are some interfaces that are not assigned to any particular area or AS. If not specifically stated which area to place the interface in, is it okay to dump it in Area 0? Or is it better to not assign the interface to any specific area or routing protocol and just redistribute via redistribute connected command?

What is the rule of thumb or "best practice" to use here?
