Hi Simon,

Which version of IOS are you using. Maybe you are facing a bug!

Bug CSCed34807:
Attempts to change the privilege level of an existing 'username' command can
result in incorrect values. Also, the privilege level may be reset to the
default if other parameters of the 'username' are changed. A workaround is
to delete the username and re-enter it entirely with the new privilege
level.

I know there is something said about this behaviour in the archives, but
can't find it at the moment. May be someone else can help?

Regards,
Henk

Onderwerp: Privilege level problem with Telnet

Hi,

I have come across a problem with Telnet access and privilege levels, any
help appreciated

R4 is configured as

username TAC password CISCO
username TAC privilege 0

line vty 0 4
login local

However when I telnet in to R4

The privilege level is shown as 1

If I change the privilege level to 2 with username TAC privilege 2. Then if
I telnet in and show privilege level it shows as 3. Seems to increment by 1
each time.

Thanks

Simon
