Re: IP default-network command in OSPF - useless?

default-network does not affect on router it's configured. Router advertise
0.0.0.0 to other router at this routing domain. This is true for RIP.

default originate will advertise 0.0.0.0 only if 0.0.0.0 exist in routing
table for this router. "Always" force originating default route.
