Desmond,
You would normally pick a metric to suit your needs, whether it be a lab
question, or real life network. For example, I normally redistribute subnets
into Rip with a metric of 5, but I could use metric 1 if I wanted this
router preferred over another router advertising the same routes with a
metric of 3 etc.
It's up to you.
Regards
Lee.

Subject: Defining metric when redistributing
hi there,
just like to find out when i am redistributing one routing process to
another, how do i determine the metric to be used?
For example:
router ospf 100
redistribute bgp 20 metric 1000 subnets (why use 1000 and not other
values)
or
router ospf 100
redistribut rip metric 1 (why use 1 and not other values)
tks!
Desmond
