Stefan,

I've heard of people doing it both ways and both getting it done
correctly, what I believe (I'm sure you may check with the proctor) is
that if there is no restriction, you may use one or the other.

Subject: DHCP vs irdp (interesting question)

R1 - R2. Between this routers is configured DHCP. And the task is to
configure host default-gateway for the hosts between this two routers.
R1 is the first choice gateway and R2 is the second choice gateway. My
question is how correctly accomplish this task.
Look my two options below:

1. Through irdp
ip irpd
ip irdp preference 100 on R1

and
ip irdp
ip irdp pref 50 on R2.

2. through DHCP:

R2 is the dhcp server:

ip dhcp pool MYPOOL
default-router 1.1.56.7 1.1.56.5

Which of this solutions would better accomplish the task?? Which would
be more correct?? Would the option 2 be a valid solution for such
situation??
I just thought what if R2 will be down... than probably R1 wouldn't be
able to announce as the default-gateway.

could anybody explain?? What could be an advantage in the second
solution than??

Thanks.
