'ip dhcp-server' should work even if the Server is not necessary on the same subnet but several hops away...right??

Finally I got it to work after reloading R2. Not sure about what was
happening. I guess some kind of buggy behaviour. Anyway thank you all
for your help.

I am not sure about your suggestion of using "ip helper-address" in this
config. As I understand it, R2 does not receives a DHCP discovery over
the dialer interface, but originates one on behalf of R1. Am I wrong?...
