I just plan to use it to move images onto a router for upgrading, not
leave the USB flash in the router. Nor do I plan to call TAC requesting
support on a external usb flash device I bought at WalMart.  I just
wasn't certain if I could format any flash and use it, or if it checked
for something proprietary.
I did the same thing with Cisco made flash card for the 5500/6500s to
move images around, make backups of running-configs, only I had a actual
Cisco 64MB ATA flash card that cost a arm and a leg.  Remember how the
difffernet versions of CatOS, and IOS used different file formats. You
would get a error "bad magic number", what a mess that was (and
probobably still is!).
Using a USB would be faster then copying
tftp://10.10.10.10/2811/filename.ios flash: -jason
