Good morning:

Cisco understands that "THE LAB" is the hallmark of the entire Cisco
certification process. What changed when Token Ring came off the test, more
Ethernet or more routing? I would say more Ethernet with the 3550.

You can't replace ATM, ISDN, DLSw+ with more Layer 3. The test won't be
balanced. With the upgrade of so many routers in the Lab, I would suspect
to see more switching with the 3800 and 2800 routers over time. In the
beginning I suppect more 3550 questions.

If you look at the public test labs you see a balance between Layer 2 and
Layer 3. To add 8 to 10 points for IPv6 would throw the test to almost all
Layer 3. I would look for more switching, three to four switches with
something like multiple trunking configurations over time.

Early in the year I suppect that Layer 2 additions will draw from the
existing database of questions. This will reduce the need for extensive
testing of the new configurations. You can also build isolated questions
for Layer 2 that provide for understanding but don't impact the traffic of
the test network, like:

SW1 Port 0/18 will have an IP telephone, configure ...
SW2 Port 0/16 will be in the conference room ....
SW1 Port 0/12 will someday have a switch connected to it using ....

Low impact questions to the lab, high understanding required by the student.

My studying goes like this:

- Switching and Frame Relay: 25%
- IGP IPv4 Routing: 25%
- BGP: 10%
- QoS: 10%
- IPv6 10%
- Security: 8%
- Multicast: 7%
- IOS: 5%
