I'm not familiar with 3825 product yet, I know though it's fairly new and
about to make it's appearance in the R&S lab kitlist - perhaps putting one
of these in your network isn't a bad idea after all ;)

On a more serious note, internal power supply is less desirable than a
hotswapable since you will have to power down the unit in order to replace a
faulty internal psu.

With any lower than a 7200 option your going to have a transition in a HA
environment at some point or downtime in spof scenario. The problem is that
if the architecture is not robust, the transition stage could prove risky in
case of hw failure. That's why I said it's all about the risks. If max
uptime & minimum disruption is paramount and cost is not an issue then imho
7200 is the most sensible option.

Not really. The 3845 has internal redundant power supplies and the 3825 has
an available external redundant power shelf offered as an option.

There's much to consider when making such a decision. When comparing the
7200 with anything lower bear in mind the fact that you will lose dual psu
resiliency. What are the risks?

We are currently thinking about downgrading from a Cisco 7206 for our
Internet facing router.
Does anyone have a suggestion on what models would work for this? We only do
a default route via BGP.
I've been looking at the 3800 series but I'm not sure how good it would be
for this role. I didn't see too many options between 3600 and 7000.
I guess the only thing I would be worried about is processing power. It
looks like the 3800 series can hold as much memory as we currently have in
our 7206.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thx,
Bill
