Yes - the problem here is that in a Sparse-Mode/Auto-RP configuration - R1
needs an RP in order to enjoy multicast traffic - but the mechanism being
used to distribute the RP information is a multicast group itself!!! Poor
old R1 needs an RP in order to learn the RP!!!! Doh!
Sparse-dense mode was created to "patch" this Auto-RP deficiency.
Another option is to stay in sparse-mode and use the ip pim autorp listener
command on all your multicast devices. This command is found in your
12.2Command Ref for Multicast:
