I could be wrong. I think that you will need cef if you use nbar. Otherwise it seems ok to use both of them without enabling cef, at least on command lines. - Dehong

I have been debating this with a co-worker this morning. He had read that doc and told me you needed cef for CAR. I told him that you did NOT need cef for CAR only on the 7500 platform.
CAR was around long before CEF. The doc is abit misleading.

Hi,

Can someone pls tell me,

When i do rate-limit on an interface without using CEF it works and the documentation for the same says CEF is a pre-requisite for CAR.

The same is the case when i do class based policing.

Can someone pls clarify whether CEF is really required for both the methods.
As i am able to do the same without CEF.

Regards,
Swaroop.
