Hi,
I would like to thank everybody here who helped me with the R&S lab.
Since my post yesterday that I passed, I got a lot of reactions by mail from all over the world from other CCIE's They said "Welcome to the club".. Thanks Thanks Thanks
I also got a lot of mails from people who are still learning for the lab and the asked me if they could call me or ask me questions. Ofcourse you can ask me questions, but not LAB EXAM CONTENT related questions ofcourse!
Here's a quick summary of how I did it:
WRITTEN:
Last year I did the R&S Beta Written, which was really crap and I failed it by 1%. Then I did the official R&S and I failed it again by 2%. Then I contacted Cisco that I wanted my money back because I believed there still were a lot of question in error, and even not to talk about the "Microsoft exams like Wireless question". After a week they gave me a free voucher and said that I was right, but had to do the test over @#$. The third time I passed the written.
LAB:
I already had a lot of config experience since I was CCAI for CCNA/NP classes and work daily with cisco equipment.
I started with the Heinz Ulm CCIE bootcamp, which was 3 weeks 15 hours a day including weekend of intense training, and when I came back I was at a certain level to be familiar with all the topics for the exam, I trained everything there. I would recommend the Heinz Ulm CCIE bootcamp. It really brings you to a certain level, so that you know "ok I did everything and now I know my weak points" For more info www.heinzulm.com
Than I did some extra rackrentals with www.proctorlabs.com and EVEN BETTER/ CHEAPER www.racktimerentals.com.
My first lab attempt was last month, and I failed it, because of nervous. I forgot to apply thing on interfaces, didn't take the time to really understand the questions etc. etc..
Then I rented another 50hours of online rackrental and did everything over and over. I did NOT use ipexpertlabs (they are great I know, but I already spend to much money) I made up my own lab scenario's and questions!!. After all that work I passed on my second attempt.
Don't go to the lab if you are not familiar with all the topics.
So if for e.g. you think "well I can do ATM pvc, lets do the lab and I hope I don't get atm svc" than just don't go...
If you feel like "Well I don't give a damm of what they are going to ask me, ATM pvc, SVC, BGP, ISIS, because I can set it up even in my sleep" then it's time to go.
Enjoy it when something isn't working!!! It's fun to findout WHY, and you learn a lot more from it then than just type some config over from a book and it works immediately, because in the lab they will put in some tricks to mess your "real world config".
Well that's it..
Keep up the good work, your all going to pass in the future, that's for sure!
And ofcourse once again thanks to all the guys here on Groupstudy who helped me!
Regards,
Jorg Buesink
